In the beginning of Janurary 1997 a rebuilding project began, in which runners, jumpers and throwers congregated in one place La Salle Academy. Together they formed a foundation which was taken from past glories in 60's, 70's and 80's. Today this project is a well oiled machine, a bird of prey, and a formidable power. Surpassing even the expectations of it coaches. The team is comprised of young top athletes from all over the city. Our numbers are very small compared to other track and field teams. We have 35 members from freshman to seniors, where other schools have 50 members on their Freshman team alone. Nonetheless, we have managed to compete with other schools at the Varsity level through indivdual events. However, our main goal is to compete for a division or city championship. The team has manged to win two Freshman Outdoor Division Championships (1999 and 2000) and a Freshman Indoor City Championship (2000). Also, the team had placed third in the Iona Spring 2000 Outdoor Invitaional. The Track and Field Team's future looks promising, and our athletes are gearing up for future competitions. Alumni coaches Jean P. Devesin 88' and Randy Williams 86' are confident that with focus and determination the team can continue to be a strong Track and Field power in New York City.
